Film and Television

What is Film and Television and how does the class work? I am going to give you a brief overview of what the expectations and procedures are for the class.
In this class we will learn about the early creation of photography and how it evolved into moving pictures. We will explore the early history and inventions of film that laied the building blocks for the way movies are made today. Silent Movies, Early Sound Movies, The creation of Special Effects, how the use of the camera expanded to be a tool to tell the stories.
STORY... That is what I hope to give to my students, to understand the process of storytelling. Today's cinema is focused mostly on spectral... how impressive can you make the images and effects look... and in the process the story is becoming secondary.

MOVIES:
The movies we watch will be grouped by Genre. We will typically start with the oldest in the Genre and continue to newer movies. The categories may vary from year to year but the following will be included each year: HORRROR, HOLIDAY, ROMANTIC COMEDIES, BLACK HISTORY, ACTION and SI-FI among others. It is my intent to show them movies that have value in the history of Cinema, that they may not have yet seen.

FILM REVIEW SHEET:
For every movie we watch the student will be required to fill out a Review Sheet that covers the elements of the standard Story Arch. The sheet is marked with the value of each section towards a grade.
They will be required to turn the completed sheet in at the completion of each movie, failure to do so will result in points being taken from their paper.

ABSENT: In the even a student missed class and therefore part, or all of them movie they are not excused from turning in the Review Sheet. They are responsible for either watching the movie on there own as homework, or Googling the movie to read a review in order to answer the questions on the Review Sheet. The responses need to be in THEIR OWN WORDS. Any responses that are COPIED from the internet will not be counted. They will receive full credit without penalty if they have been absent and turn in the paper late. EXECPT...if they are marked PRESENT and are absent from class, it will be assumed they are skipping and will not get the benefit of turning in a late paper without penalty.

CLASS BEHAVIOR: The students are expected to, respectfully watch they movie and not disturb other members of the class.
