Rockvale High School’s Steve Luker has been named Principal of the Year for Rutherford County Schools.
Mr. Luker has been a public-school teacher and administrator for more than 35 years. He served as principal at both David Youree Elementary School and Smyrna Middle School before taking the job as Rockvale High’s first principal.
Under Mr. Luker’s leadership, Rockvale was recognized in 2023 and 2024 as a Reward School by the Tennessee Department of Education. The school has also earned a level five ranking for student academic growth every year since it opened in 2019. Level five is the highest ranking awarded by TDOE.
Mr. Luker is widely regarded as a leader in the Rockvale community. In 2024, he oversaw a multi-million-dollar turf field and scoreboard project. An American flag watermark was included on the field as a tribute to Rockvale’s rich military history and to honor the many members of our community who are involved in ROTC and the military. “Military is very important to our school and our community,” Luker said. “During World War II, a number of students at Rockvale left to serve in the military. When they came home, the community wanted the mascot to be named the Rockets.”
Thank you, Mr. Luker, for your leadership and commitment to Rockvale High School.
